Joanna Pacitti Sent Declared Ineligible For American Idol

People reports that contestant Joanna Pacitti has been replaced by Felicia Barton. Joanna was deemed ineligible to continue in the competition by Fox.
On Wednesday’s episode of American Idol, Paula Abdul — and the rest of the judges — told tearful contestant Joanna Pacitti (pictured left) that she deserved another chance at stardom, sending her to the next round of the competition. But by Thursday morning, Joanna had been disqualified and replaced by Felicia Barton.

"It has been determined that Joanna Pacitti is ineligible to continue in the competition," FOX said in a statement released Wednesday night. "American Idol contestant Felicia Barton has replaced Ms. Pacitti as part of the Top 36."
Joanna had previous record deals which disqualified her. The intent of American Idol is to find previously undiscovered talent. (via Newser)

American Idol Bikini Girl Creates Stir

American Idol Bikini Girl

American Idol contestant Katrina Darrell, 20, created a stir when she tried out for the show in her teeny bikini. She's become known as Bikini Girl. US says new judge Kara DioGuardi didn't like bikini girl's performance.
After her rendition of Mariah Carey's "Vision of Love," judges Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson sent her through - but DioGuardi didn't think she had "swing."

So DioGuardi re-sang the song for Darrell, telling her how she should have done it. Darrell then snapped, "your demonstration wasn't any better."

"We just know you as top and bottom," DioGuardi cracked after Darrell was eventually sent through. "Next time, come naked!"
The show could use a boost - it's ratings have fallen 15% this year. Although it still has 30 million viewers so maybe Fox isn't worried.

David Cook Wins the Battles of the Davids

David CookDavid Cook has won this year's season of American Idol. He received 56% of the 97.5 million votes cast and crushed his younger rival David Archuleta.
David Cook, a sometimes sullen 25-year-old rocker from Blue Springs, Mo., was named the winner of "American Idol" on Wednesday, receiving 56 percent of the 97.5 million votes cast after Tuesday's performances, easily winning over David Archuleta, a 17-year-old balladeer from Murray, Utah.

It was in many ways a surprise victory. During Tuesday's competition, all three of the program's judges seemed to endorse Mr. Archuleta as the winner. To many observers in the 7,000-seat Nokia Theater here, Mr. Archuleta's final performances were the more electric. Simon Cowell, the sometimes-petulant judge who rarely is at a loss for words, seemed to speak for the other judges at the end of Tuesday's show when he said that Mr. Archuleta "came out here to win" and did so by "a knockout."

But Mr. Cowell, who months ago predicted that Mr. Archuleta was the contestant to beat, presaged the results minutes before the winner was announced on Wednesday, apologizing to Mr. Cook and saying that his remarks on Tuesday were "verging on disrespectful."

Fox rode the Idol juggernaut to yet another ratings victory in the current television season. The show's average audience of more than 25 million viewers is more than one-third larger than the next most popular show on broadcast television, ABC's "Dancing With the Stars."
American Idol's staggering ratings were down from the year before but you know it is going to be back again next year anyway. The Times article also noted that the prediction website www.DialIdol.com was almost exactly right.

Paula Abdul: Dance Like There's No Tomorrow

Paula Abdul SingingWe told you Paula Abdul was planning a comeback and now her she is with her new single, "Dance Like There's No Tomorrow." For her first release in over a decade it sounds great and she looks really good in the music video. You can see a larger version of the video here on Fox.com. Randy Jackson is also playing guitar in the video. Some bloggers are saying Paula doesn't like her new video but there's no reason why she shouldn't like her new fun and entertaining music video. Don't let the naysayers get you down Paula. For more discussion visit Pleasant Morning Buzz, 411mania, Seriously? Labels Drop Katharine McPhee and Taylor Hicks

McPhee January 2008Us Magazine is reporting that American Idols Katharine McPhee and Taylor Hicks have been dropped by their record labels.
Katharine McPhee - whose self-titled disc debuted at No. 2 (which hasn't gone gold yet despite being released nearly a year ago) - has been dropped by her label, a rep for RCA has confirmed to Usmagazine.com.

Two days before: Taylor Hicks - who beat out McPhee on season five - was dropped by his label, J Records.

Late last year, ex-champ Ruben Studdard of season 2 also exited his contract with J Records.

What gives?

"I think the industry has seen that unless these artists can churn out strong enough original material, they don't really have that much traction once we don't see them on television week after week singing songs we already know and love," Rollingstone.com editor Caryn Ganz tells Usmagazine.com.
What happened to the McPhever? Katharine McPhee seemed to be very popular and has some live performances that were all over YouTube so it is hard to believe she won't be picked up by another label. Still, it really isn't good news for either of them.
