The music industry is sure changing. It is starting to look like record stores are the last places you should look for the latest albums. The Spice Girls, who have been selling out tickets for their upcoming tour, have cut an exclusive deal with Victoria's Secret to sell their album.
The sexy pop group has partnered with Victoria's Secret to sell the 15-track album exclusively through the lingerie giant's stores and Web site, PEOPLE has learned.
"They do great bras, and every girl wears a bra. And they should – at some point in their life. Unless they don’t need to wear one," Melanie "Scary Spice" Brown told PEOPLE Monday night. The CD, due Nov. 13, will not be available at traditional retail outlets but will be downloadable at various music sites including iTunes. (Fans can also pre-order hard copies of the CD at www.victoriassecret.com for 24 hours between midnight on Oct. 17 and 18.)
The album features 13 of the group's biggest hits, plus two new tracks: the album's first single "Headlines (Friendship Never Ends)" and "Voodoo."
People also reports that the Spice Girls will appear on the annual Victoria's Secret fashion show, which will be taped in L.A. in November and air on CBS December 4th.
Right Arm Entertainment and Live Nation have postponed the first annual Girlfrenzy. The concert originally scheduled for Saturday, October 27 at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Irvine, CA has been postponed until 2008. It is too bad because the concert had lined up some great female singers including Sheryl Crow, Avril Lavigne, Fiona Apple and Colbie Caillat.
Sheryl Crow, Avril Lavigne and Fiona Apple are among the artists who will perform Saturday, October 27 at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Irvine, CA at the first annual day-long concert extravaganza of chart-topping female musicians and such up and coming female artists as red hot Colbie Caillat (whose single "Bubbly" is a smash pop radio hit) and iTunes sensation Sara Bareilles--both of whom hail from Los Angeles--as well as Antigone Rising. The festival is the brainchild of Right Arm Entertainment, who also produced the sold-out Rock On The Range Festival at Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio, among others. Look for the festival's promoters, Right Arm Entertainment and Live Nation, to announce more performers in the coming weeks for the inaugural event.
Future details about Girlfrenzy 2008 can be found on MySpace at www.myspace.com/girlfrenzy and the website at: www.girlfrenzyfestival.com. The website says refunds for the cancelled October 27th date are available at point of purchase.
Van Halen and David Lee Roth have announced their first tour in 22 years on their website at van-halen.com. Van Halen is best known to most people for their 1984 album which stayed at number one on Billboard's charts for five start weeks. 1984 included the hit songs "Jump, "Panama, "Hot For Teacher" and "I'll Wait."
Tickets for the first Van Halen tour in more than 22 years with David Lee Roth as lead vocalist went on sale this weekend and resulted in immediate sell outs in multiple markets around the country, including Charlotte, Detroit (Palace), 2 shows in Toronto, 2 in Chicago and one in Philadelphia. Tour producer Live Nation immediately added additional shows in Philadelphia (Wachovia Center 10/3) and Detroit (Joe Louis Arena 10/20) which will go on sale this Saturday, August 25th.
An additional stop was also scheduled for Washington, DC's Verizon Center (11/1), extending Van Halen's historic trek to 29 dates in all. Tickets for the Washington, DC date will go on sale this Friday, August 24th. In addition, tickets for the band's October 30th show at Boston's TD Banknorth Garden go on sale this Saturday, August 25th.
SFGate.com's culture blog predicted this even earlier this year. Are people still listening to Van Halen. Yes, they are. They have been able to add tour dates because of strong ticket sales. YouTube shows 12,500 results for a Van Halen search. This video for "Jump" has over 1.6 million views.
A Lollapalooza performance by Pearl Jam was censored in an AT&T webcast. The part where lead singer Eddie Vedder sang about President George Bush was muted by AT&T. Save the Internet explains:
Over the weekend AT&T gave us a glimpse of their plans for the Web when they censored a Pearl Jam performance that didn't meet their standard of "Internet freedom."
During the live Lollapalooza Webcast of a concert by the Seattle-based super-group, the telco giant muted lead singer Eddie Vedder just as he launched into a lyric against President George Bush. The lines - "George Bush, leave this world alone" and "George Bush find yourself another home" were somehow lost in the mix.
Pearl Jam gave the following statement regarding the censorship, "What happened to us this weekend was a wake up call, and it's about something much bigger than the censorship of a rock band."
Save the Internet posted this video clip of the censorship on YouTube.
Microsoft Corp. says it set a record for streaming an online event to the most customers after offering the Live Earth concerts on MSN over the weekend.
About 8 million people watched at least parts of the concerts live over the 36 hours that the shows took place in ten locations around the world. At the peak, 237,000 people watched simultaneously, Microsoft said.
That's more than what Microsoft thinks is the previous most-watched online broadcast, the Live 8 concerts in 2005. According to AOL LLC, which streamed those ten concerts, 5 million people around the world watched live.

You have probably heard about Live Earth the giant worldwide concert taking place on 7-7-07 to raise awareness about the global warming problem. Rolling Stone reports that one of the bands playing is a group of scientists living in Antarctica. The group is called Nunatak.
Of the dozens of bands playing Live Earth this Saturday, one has a seriously close connection to the event's global-warming warning. When organizers looking to stage events on every continent learned they couldn't land commercial flights on Antarctica due to its fierce winter weather, the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) suggested that rather than bring in outsiders, Live Earth hire the research team's house band, Nunatak.
Nunatak is Greenlandic for "an exposed summit of a ridge mountain or peak (not covered with snow) within an ice field or glacier" - it's also the name of the five-piece band that entertains BAS's 22-person scientist team. All the bandmembers work at the BAS's Rothera Research Station "investigating climate change and evolutional biology on the Antarctic Peninsula," which has experienced an almost 3-degree Celsius climate change over the last 50 years. Tomorrow, the band will make their global debut as they perform their "two most popular tunes" outside on the peninsula in a show that will be broadcast via live feed.
Nunatak - Matt Balmer (electronics engineer, singer-songwriter and guitarist), Tris Thorne (communications engineer, fiddler), Ali Massey (marine biologist, saxophonist), Rob Wester (meterologist, drummer) and Roger Stilwell (field general assistant, bassist) - formed when the scientists were training at the BAC's headquarters before heading down to Antarctica, and the members spend time jamming when they're not outdoors researching.
NPR also has a story about Nunatak and below is a video of the band rehearsing.
